On Saturday, February 1, 2025, I attended a Service Saturday where I helped to sort through and organize household items at the Ithaca ReUse Center. Our group sorted through a handful of Gaylord boxes and helped to price items in a range of $1 to $10+. We cleaned items down and helped repurpose items for their new homes. I was also in charge of picking the music for our Saturday, so it was a little added bonus. My key takeaway was how we helped to provide items to the community at a more accessible price. I noticed unused period products and adult diapers in the donation pile, and typically those items can be very expensive. We managed to price a larger box at around $2-3. Additionally, children could find fun toys they enjoy for a much cheaper price. It brought a smile to my face knowing we could change someone's day for the better.
